As we move into the back half of 2023, one question that we frequently encounter at churchsetup.com is, “What’s the best PTZ camera for churches?” With a plethora of options available, from brands like JVC, PTZ Optics, BirdDog, Canon, Sony, and more, it’s a challenging question to answer definitively. The “best” camera varies from one church to another, depending on specific needs and budgets.
What’s the Best PTZ Camera for Church? Reviewing 4 Affordable Options
In this post, we’ll compare four PTZ camera models that are popular among churches. We’ll provide sample footage, side-by-side comparisons, and share our experiences using these cameras.
PTZ Optics 30X

The PTZ Optics 30X is a 1080p camera that comes in two versions: SDI and/or NDI and non-NDI. This camera has been a best-seller at churchsetup.com for years. However, it’s important to note that this model is being phased out and replaced by the PTZ Optics new Move 4K camera.
Update: The 1080 version of PTZOptics cameras are being replaced by the new Move-SE, which adds better performance autotracking to an already amazing camera. You can check out all of our Move-SE kits here.
BirdDog P100

The BirdDog P100 is slightly more expensive than the PTZ Optics camera. It’s a 10x zoom camera, compared to the 30x zoom of the PTZ Optics model. The P100 needs to be closer to the subject due to its zoom limitation. Despite this, the P100 delivers a great image and is a favorite among BirdDog cameras.
BirdDog P400

The BirdDog P400 is a 4K camera with a 30x zoom. It’s a significantly more expensive model, priced at $4,195. Despite its high price and 10-bit image quality, we found it challenging to get the exposure right, and the image often appeared grainy.
AIDA Imaging 4K 30X NDI

The AIDA Imaging 4K 30X NDI camera is similar to the BirdDog P400, but it’s priced at $1,995—literally half the price. We believe that it delivers a better image than the P400, making it an excellent bargain for churches.

The Best PTZ Camera for Churches
When it comes to choosing the best PTZ camera for your church, it ultimately depends on your specific needs and budget. If you need auto-tracking, the PTZ Optics Move 4K camera is a fantastic choice. If auto-tracking isn’t necessary, and you want to save some money, the Ada Imaging 4K camera offers the best quality at the lowest price.
Remember, the “best” camera is the one that fits your church’s needs and budget. Take the time to understand the features and capabilities of each model before making a decision. Happy filming!
